"I've decided to keep you here until we can work this out."As I write this I am trying to remember the last good movie I saw Meg Ryan in, and...I can't even remember.
Unfortunately her new movie Serious Moonlight doesn't break her seemingly cursed Hollywood career. Co-starring Timothy Hutton, Kristen Bell and Justin Long, Ryan stars as a middle-aged wife and corporate maven who thinks she's being romantic when she drops in on her husband in their vacation home, but instead finds it laced with rose petals for his mistress, played by Bell. Devastated and shocked, Ryan knocks her husband cold and ties him up with duct tape demanding that he become the man she once married--the one who only had eyes for her.
Well you know nothing good could really come from that scheme. For most of the film, Hutton is tied up and Ryan is aimlessly running amuck. The plot is extremely silly and all over the place at best. Ryan grossly overacts throughout the film, Hutton is so above this role it's sad to even watch, and Long and Bell are simply added fluff to an already diluted and inconceivable plot. The movie seriously goes on too long, with the last five minutes designed to be a twist in the story but really just left me scratching my head.
Serious Moonlight is in theaters December 4. Click here to check out the trailer.
