"This is a story of boy meets girl. But you should know up front, this is not a love story."So often it's the woman who tries to turn the hopelessly noncomitted man into a one-woman-monogamous-serious-relationship type guy. But in (500) Days of Summer, it's the other way around. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Tom, the eternal romantic who's looking for his one and only. In comes Summer, played by Zooey Deschanel, who sweeps Tom off his feet in an instant love at first sight romance. Trouble is, Tom is the only one who's in love. He's in a romantic relationship in his head, and by himself. Summer isn't trying to be locked down, and just wants to have fun enjoying Tom's company--no strings attached. For those of us who've been in a "relationship" like this, you can only imagine what happens next.
(500) Days is one of the few chick flicks with a male protagonist, which makes for a quite interesting movie. Gordon-Levitt is adorable as the lovable and charming love-chaser who's miserably in love with a movable target. And Deschanel is subtly spectacular as the beautiful Summer who captured Tom's heart.
What makes this movie so seamless is the spot-on performances of the two lead actors and the very relatable story of what happens when love--and life--happens.
