Winter's Bone, even with its dragging sequences (though poignant performances), is the surprising forerunner this award season after its sweep at last night's Gotham Awards, and leading the pack for these independent movie awards. It's good to see Mother and Child, even with its early release date (same goes for Please Give), get some love here at the Spirit Awards, along with Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right, Black Swan, Night Catches Us and Annette Bening. Where's Julianne Moore's nod? That's a total snub on their part. Another surprise is Greenberg, which fell real flat with dull performances. The Independent Spirit Awards will be given out on February 26, 2011 at 10pm EST.

I almost went to see Greenberg, then I read your review and just assumed I would hate it too. I didn't care for Winter's Bone either, I hope The Kids Are All Right sweeps.

I agree about Julianne Moore though, She was just as good as Bening. I was hoping Vincent Cassel would get in there for Black Swan. Haven't seen it yet, but I think he's awesome either way.
