Movie You Need to Know About: "Celeste and Jesse Forever" Starring Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg

The Office and Parks and Recreation actress (and breakout star of Oscar-winning The Social Network) Rashida Jones co-wrote stars and stars in the upcoming quirky romantic comedy, Celeste and Jesse Forever.

Following a divorcing couple who still remain inseparable even after their separation, Celeste and Jesse Forever stars Jones as Celeste and SNL's Andy Samberg as the titular duo. Full synopsis on the movie below (from Sony Picture Classics):

Celeste (Rashida Jones) and Jesse (Andy Samberg) met in high school, married young and are growing apart. Now thirty, Celeste is the driven owner of her own media consulting firm, Jesse is once again unemployed and in no particular rush to do anything with his life.

Celeste is convinced that divorcing Jesse is the right thing to do -- she is on her way up, he is on his way nowhere, and if they do it now instead of later, they can remain supportive friends. Jesse passively accepts this transition into friendship, even though he is still in love with her. As the reality of their separation sets in, Celeste slowly and painfully realizes she has been cavalier about their relationship, and her decision, which once seemed mature and progressive, now seems impulsive and selfish. But her timing with Jesse is less than fortuitous. While navigating the turbulent changes in their lives and in their hearts, these two learn that in order to truly love someone, you may have to let them go.

The film is a humorous and honest examination of a broken heart and the long, hard road it takes to heal it.

Check out the trailer below:

The film was a huge hit at Sundance earlier this year. It also stars Elijah Wood, Emma Roberts, Ari Graynor, Eric Christian Olsen, Chris Messina (with whom Jones worked in the romantic drama, Monogamy), and Will McCormack (who co-wrote the film with Jones).

Sometimes, if you want that lead Hollywood role and Tinseltown fails to acknowledge your talent, you're often better off writing the role yourself. Hopefully this pays off big for Jones, as it did for Kristin Wiig with Bridesmaids.

It will also be interesting to see Andy Samberg play a romantic lead.

Celester and Jesse Forever comes to theaters August 3rd. Review to come.
