"For Greater Glory," Starring Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria, Leads the 2012 ALMA Award Nominations

It's really sad that too often actors of the get overlooked for the major awards, like the Oscars and Golden Globes. But, there are few things sweeter than being honored by your own peers--not just your fellow actors, but your fellow actors of color. That's one of the things that makes the ALMA Awards that much more glorious.

This year, the Almas (the American Latino Media Arts) salute some of our finest talent from the Latin community....and some others that they just threw on the list to seemingly throw us off. From the glitzy cast of Oliver Stone's recent flick, Savages, to Eva Mendes finally getting the respect she deserves with a nod for her lead role in Girl in Progress, this year's ceremony looks like it's going to have something for everyone.

Remarkably, the film with the most nominations is a little known project starring Andy Garcia and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria titled For Greater Glory, which hit theaters last month. Both actors garnered nods for their work in the film, which also is nominated for favorite movie. The movie chronicles the Cristeros War (1926-1929) between the people of Mexico against the atheistic Mexican government. For those unfamiliar with the movie, you're invited to watch the trailer here.

Then there's of course the half-baked performances by Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz in What to Expect When You're Expecting and Sofia Vergara's forgettable role in The Three Stooges. At any rate, the evening is sure shaping up to be an interesting one, if anything. Catch the live ceremony on September 21st at 8pm EST on NBC.

I'd seen the trailer for "For Greater Glory" but sadly it wasn't showing anywhere nearby, will be looking for it on video when it comes out.

"For Greater Glory" is not showing in my city too. I am also looking for the DVD. I hope it will come out soon. However, seeing this movie in the cinema is much better.
