Director Sacha Gervasi Presents..."Hitchcock," Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson [TRAILER]

I'm sure there will be other trailers clamoring for your attention as we breeze through the rest of 2012, but I assure you there has been no other trailer I was anticipating more than Hitchcock, which details the events that occurred before and throughout the production of one of Alfred Hitchcock's greatest works, Psycho, in 1959. And now it's here!

But before I unveil the clip (and in case you haven't already skipped to the bottom of this post to gaze at the trailer), I figured I'd chat a little bit more about it. Recounting the groundbreaking moments surrounding an iconic filmmaker is quite the endeavor to take on, so a strong cast  is essential to tell the story honestly and convincingly as was the writer ad director (after all, this is a movie within a movie). Thankfully, based on the trailer, they seem to have gotten it right by having Anthony Hopkins step into Hitchcock's giant shoes, virtually disappearing into his tubby body and signature pout classically remembered in black and white silhouette in his films and on The Twilight Zone.

The film itself seems to be seems to be twofold--getting Psycho made and the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville, who was apparently never shy about adding her two cents into any of his productions. The official plot is after the jump:

HITCHCOCK is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie PSYCHO.

Helen Mirren and Anthony Hopkins as Dame and Sir Hitchcock! SIGN ME UP!

The film nicely rounds up the rest of the cast with actors portraying key characters in Hitchcock's life and career at the time--Scarlett Johansson as the fated shower victim Janet Leigh, James D'Arcy, who's a dead ringer for Anthony Perkins, Ralph Macchio as Psycho scribe Joe Stefano, Toni Colette and Hitchcock's production assistant Peggy Robertson, and...Jessica Biel as Vera Miles????

I was on board with all the casting decisions (since I've been obsessed with he making of this film since it was first announced), but must have completely blocked out the fact that Biel had wiggled her way onto the cast. So, this was a bit of a shock to see her in the clip here, as the actress who played the sister of Leigh's character Marion. It's an interesting choice, to say the least.

It's also interesting that director Sacha Gervasi, whose claim to fame before this was the 2008 documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil (his only other credit), is helming the project. And John J McLaughlin, who wrote the exquisite screenplay for 2010's Black Swan, is also behind this script, which makes me think that there may be more than what meets the eye in this trailer (which is part dark and mysterious with clever dialogue). I am incredibly intrigued.

So without further ado, I present you Hitchcock (which will reportedly be limited release in theaters on November 23rd):

Think it looks impressive, trailer really peaked my interest more than any other trailers in the last few months.

I had completely missed this until the last few weeks, it's really sprung up on me, but I think this could be a real dark horse for the Oscars.
