Let's just go ahead and file this under Movies That Release At Christmastime that You're Forced to See With Your Family In a Nice, Warmhearted Gathering.
Or maybe that's just my family. In any case, it looks like her highness Barbra Streisand has traded her hilarious turn in the Meet the Fockers franchise for another stab as a frightfully embarrassing mom to Seth Rogen in The Guilt Trip.
The pair play mom and son duo Andy and Joyce Brewster who embark on a cross country road trip that ends up being even longer than Andy feared. More below:
Andy Brewster is about to embark on the road trip of a lifetime, and who better to accompany him than his overbearing mother Joyce. After deciding to start his adventure with a quick visit at mom’s, Andy is guilted into bringing her along for the ride. Across 3,000 miles of ever-changing landscape, he is constantly aggravated by her antics, but over time he comes to realize that their lives have more in common than he originally thought. His mother's advice might end up being exactly what he needs.
Sounds pretty by the numbers. And if I hadn't already seen Streisand shed her regal demeanor as Roz Focker, I would have said this pairing seems odd for her. But this looks right up her alley, even if it is standard family film fare. I just hoped that after 50/50 Rogen would attract more sophisticated films. Your thoughts?
The Guilt Trip opens in theaters--a-ha!--December 25th. :)
