"Middle of Nowhere" Leads the 2013 Black Reel Award Nominees

This morning the nominations for the 2013 Black Reel Awards, which honor the best in African-American talent, were announced. Director Ava Duvernay's absolutely lovely indie drama, Middle of Nowhere, catapults to the top of the list with a staggering nine nominations, including a best picture nod and another for lead actress Emayatzy Corinealdi.

Overall, the nominee list is quite solid. A few notables I'm happy to see recognized are Nate Parker for his scene-stealing performance in Arbitrage, Rashida Jones for Celeste and Jesse Forever, and of course Jamie Foxx and Sam Jackson for Django Unchained (to name just a few).

My thoughts about these nominations.

So happy to see Rashida Jones nominated as Outstanding Actress for 'Celeste and Jesse Forever'. To me she was the best thing about the picture.

I'm also pleased that Nate Parker was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for 'Arbitrage' for he was really good in it.

Outstanding Supporting Actress is for Lorraine Toussaint to lose for her role in 'Middle of Nowhere'

Also pleased to see Tim Story nominated as Outstanding Director for 'Think Like A Man'. Truly one of the best pictures of 2012

I haven't seen it, but heard nothing, but good things, when it was supposed to come to the Maryland Film Festival, about 'Brooklyn Castle' so I'm happy that is nominated as Outstanding Feature Documentary

Outstanding Ensemble has to got to 'Flight' for its supporting cast was just that—outstanding!

Pleased to see Maya Washington's film 'White Space' nominated for Outstanding Independent Short.I saw it earlier this year at WAMM Fest (Women And Minorities in Media Festival) and it was very good!

Lastly for Outstanding Motion Picture
Out of the nominees I've only seen:
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Middle of Nowhere

And my pick would have to go to—Beasts of the Southern Wild
