Jennifer Hudson is really starting to make a name for herself in the indie film circuit. She plays the title role in Winnie Mandela (in theaters Friday) and also headlines THE INEVITABLE DEFEAT OF MISTER AND PETE (heading to theaters next month). In the latter, directed by George Tillman Jr (Soul Food), the Oscar winner has a meaty role as a drug addicted prostitute and mother of a young child, trying to make ends meet in Brooklyn.
Hudson is joined by an all-star cast, including Jeffrey Wright, Jordin Sparks, Anthony Mackie, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (most known for his TV roles on Lost and Oz). They're led by the movie's two youngest stars, who play the titular characters, Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon. Singer/Songwriter Alicia Keys co-produced the project and contributes to its soundtrack. First time feature writer Michael Starrbury penned the film.
