This looks to be one of those movies that people will either love or hate. I say that with Birth in mind (which I still can't get through nearly a decade later), as its director Jonathan Glazer is also behind this existential adventure titled UNDER THE SKIN. Check out the eerie first poster above.
Despite my cautious optimism given who's behind the project, my appreciation of Scarlett Johansson knows no bounds so I will definitely be showing my support for this. First-time scribe Walter Campbell adapted the screenplay from Michel Faber's novel of the same name. Have any of you read it? I may read it before I see the film. Here's more on UNDER THE SKIN:
From visionary director Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring this succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), UNDER THE SKIN examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.
The first trailer debuts tomorrow and I'll be sure to post it here for you. UNDER THE SKIN will open April 4 in NY & LA, and will be in theaters everywhere April 11.
