Watch a Clip from the Heartbreaking Oscar-Nominated Drama, "The Broken Circle Breakdown"

You may remember I included this touching yet tragic drama in my list of the 8 Films You Need to See Before the Year is Over last December. Easily one of my favorite movies from last year, the Oscar-nominated Belgian drama The Broken Circle Breakdown is one of those films I least expected. Having known nothing about it before I popped the screener into my DVD player, I was so moved by the earnest romantic saga that transcended time, culture and tragedy.

Here's a little more about it, in case you're not familiar:

Elise (Veerle Baetens) and Didier (Johan Heldenbergh) fall in love at first sight. She has her own tattoo shop and he plays the banjo in a bluegrass band. They bond over their shared enthusiasm for American music and culture, and dive headfirst into a sweeping romance that plays out on and off stage — but when an unexpected tragedy hits their new family, everything they know and love is tested. An intensely moving portrait of a relationship from beginning to end, propelled by a soundtrack of foot-stomping bluegrass, The Broken Circle Breakdown is a romantic melodrama of the highest order.

Tribeca Films, which is on a roll lately, just released a "never before seen" clip from the film, which features the fictional lovebirds and musicians performing a warm folksy number that gives you a sense of their relationship. Check it out:

The Broken Circle Breakdown is now playing in theaters and is available on iTunes and nationwide VOD beginning today (Feb 4).
