If there was a medal for most blindly hyped up movie, it would go to THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. Ever since the first trailer landed before the holidays,Wes Anderson have been flappin' their gums about it. Since I'm not the biggest Anderson fan (sans The Royal Tenanbaums, which gets a pass), I can't share the anticipation. But I can say that the marketing campaign for this film has been top notch. Fox Searchlight has been pulling out all the stops with a pretty gnarly newly launched tumblr site that transports you to Zumbrowska (where the film is set), a cool holiday themed motion poster and tons of clips from the movie (a few more and we would have seen the whole thing).
Plus, I do love the cast, which includes Billy Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Owen Wilson, Ralph Fiennes, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Adrian Brody, Harvey Keitel and Tom Wilkinson. So hopefully the rest will come together for me. If you're familiar with Anderson's work at all, you already know that he doesn't skimp on the quirk. Here's a little more information on the film, which heaters March 7th:
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune -- all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.

Again, this seems to be another one of Anderson's esoteric trips that will leave some of us scratching our heads and others completely breathless with glee. Which one are you?
