I've been hearing a lot of ranting and raving about Jon Favreau's scrumptious new film, CHEF, but I have yet to really get excited about it. That is, until the full trailer was released yesterday and I started salivating all over it. Not because the story is particularly intriguing (it actually looks rather basic), but because of all the great food porn featured in the less than three minute clip. And you know how much I appreciate good food porn.
The adult coming-of-age comedy (a genre that is on trend these days), which is another Tribeca entry this year, centers on Favreau's character Carl, who's on the brink of making an important professional decision that may or may not advance his culinary career. More on the film, which also stars Robert Downey, Jr., Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman and Scarlett Johansson:
Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen -- and zest for life and love.
Favreau also directed, wrote and co-produced the film, which is in theaters May 9th. Aside from the pretty solid cast and amazing food porn, I'm hoping the film resonates with me a little better once I finally see it.
