Oscar-Nominated Writer of RUNNING ON EMPTY Makes Her Directorial Debut: A Coming-of-Age Film Starring Dakota Fannning & Elizabeth Olsen

So...I'm glad that we're getting more female coming-of-age films, but the new trailer for VERY GOOD GIRLS, starring Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen, isn't really calling me. I do, however, really like these two actresses, and the supporting cast (which includes Ellen Barkin, Demi Moore, Peter Sarsgaard and Richard Dreyfuss). Also, this film marks the directorial debut of Oscar-nominated writer Naomi Foner (Running on Empty), which is a pretty good sign.

According to the synopsis, which I've included below, the two girls (Olsen and Fanning) make a pact to lose their virginity the summer before they both set off to college. Trouble is, they both fall for the same guy. More:

Best friends Lily (Dakota Fanning) and Gerry (Elizabeth Olsen), home for one last New York summer, make a pact to lose their virginity before leaving for college. But when they both fall for the same handsome artist (Boyd Holbrook) and Lily starts seeing him in secret, a lifelong friendship is tested. With Demi Moore, Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Barkin, Peter Sarsgaard, and Clark Gregg, and featuring new music by Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis.

At the very least, we'll probably get a pair of interesting performances from Olsen and Fanning (who's reunited with her Night Moves co-star, Sarsgaard). Watch the trailer:

VERY GOOD GIRLS will be available on nationwide VOD and iTunes/Digital Platforms on June 24 and in select theaters July 25.
