Will Zane's ADDICTED Help Usher in a New Wave of Erotic Thrillers on the Big Screen?

Before E.L. James tantalized readers with her hugely popular Fifty Shades of Grey series, there was Zane--the pseudonymed female author of many erotica classics, who first burst onto the scene in 1997. A few of her titles even helped popularize the Skinemax TV era back in 2008. This fall, the author's work will make its way onto the big screen with ADDICTED, an erotic thriller starring Sharon Leal (Why Did I Get Married?), Boris Kodjoe (Real Husbands of Hollywood), Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married?, Jumping the Broom), Tyson Beckford, Emayatzy Corinealdi (Middle of Nowhere), Kat Graham, and William Levy.

Billie Woodruff, the filmmaker behind Honey and Beauty Shop, directed the film, which screenplay was adapted by Christina Welsh and Ernie Barbarash.

If it does well, ADDICTED, considered to be one of Zane's most prominent books, may lead a new trend of erotic thrillers on the big screen, followed by Fifty Shades' release in February next year. (Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac films earlier this year seemed to be of the higher brow persuasion, if there's such a thing). Also, with a tag line that reads "Every woman needs an escape...", ADDICTED will likely kick off a whole new wave of female sexual empowerment think pieces. Read more about the film in the synopsis below:

Based on the best-selling novel by Zane, ADDICTED is a sexy and provocative thriller about desire and the dangers of indiscretion. Successful businesswoman Zoe Reynard (Sharon Leal) appears to have attained it all - the dream husband she loves (Boris Kodjoe), two wonderful children and a flourishing career. As perfect as everything appears from the outside, Zoe is still drawn to temptations she cannot escape or resist. As she pursues a secretive life, Zoe finds herself risking it all when she heads down a perilous path she may not survive.

Though I wouldn't consider myself a fan of erotica (the writing is just so silly, but I suppose that's not its focus), I am interested to see how this story will translate onto the big screen and how it does at the box office. Both Woodruff and Zane have devoted followings, which will help drive audiences (plus, the eye candy in the cast will at least make it fun to watch).

I'm hoping we can get a new trailer soon, so hold tight for that. In the meantime, we've got the sultry new poster (above) to whet our appetites.

ADDICTED will open in theaters nationwide October 10th.
