Everyone else is already talking about awards season already, so I might as well put in my two cents: it better not be a boring one. Where are the great genre films like The Babadook and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night? Where the stylish action movies like Inception, or quirky comedies like Birdman? It bears repeating: this cannot be another year of pretentious dramatic sagas.
We still have months until the season is officially under way (and until Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight comes out, don't forget that), but trailers like CAROL are like film Ambien. While I always look forward to Cate Blanchett, there is something mind-numbingly generic about this trailer that does nothing to sell the movie. Dear Hollywood: the whole forbidden love affair movie happened already--several times. Blanchett deserves better than this presentation (as for Rooney Mara, I'm still very meh).
