With just under a decade of acting in front of the camera under his belt, Dev Patel has been teetering on the edge of Hollywood superstardom for far too long, despite his talent and endless charm--best exhibited in the Oscar-winning film, Slumdog Millionaire.
But still, I always thought we had yet to see his most astounding work. Which is why I was excited when I watched the trailer for his upcoming film, LION. Not only is Patel headlining the film, but he seems to be stealing scenes from Hollywood heavyweights Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara. But don't be fooled, judging by the trailer, this is a quintessentially cultural narrative about a young man of color looking to regain his identity after being adopted by a white Australian couple.
Five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of Kilometers across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

What say you? LION comes to theaters in November.
